In an effort to combat illegal logging, the Cameroonian government negotiated and signed a Voluntary Partnership Agreement with the EU, which came into force in 2011.

Whilst the agreement came into force in 2011, Cameroon is still in a Systems Development phase, in which a Timber Legality Assurance System needs to be developed and tested. For Cameroonian timber to be legal, it must abide by all legislation applicable to Cameroon’s forest sector (including forestry, environment, human rights, labor and trade) and ratify international agreements.
